CARMONA, CAVITE – Kaya Iloilo banked on second half goals from Daizo Horikoshi and Simone Rota to defeat a tough Azkals Development Team, 2-0, on opening night Sunday of the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara from the PFF National Training Center. The first half ended scoreless with the veteran-laden Kaya asserting their experience as the Azkals’ defense lost steam.
Horikoshi was unmarked for the easy goal to open the scoring at the 54th minute. The lead doubled by the 70th minute with substitute Ryo Fujii’s free kick causing a scramble in front of the goal with Rota ending the madness via a close-range shot.
Kaya can secure passage into the semifinals when they face Mendiola 1991 in their next fixture on November 10 at 4:00 PM. It will be the turn of ADT to test Mendiola on November 13 at 7:30 PM.
