SAN JUAN City – San Sebastian College made it back-to-back wins in its 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup campaign as they bulldozed past Emilio Aguinaldo College, 79-54, at the resumption of the games Wednesday (May 17) at the FilOil Flying V Centre. All the Stags needed was a 24-6 first period romp and they were never threatened.
Team leader Michael Calisaan sizzled early with eight points and 10 rebounds in a 15-minute stint in the first half. Satisfied with the performance, Coach Edgar Macaraya decided to sit the veteran forward in the second half in order to give the rest of the team extra playing time.
“We are not a tall team so I give everyone the license to shoot so we can open up the opponent’s defenses,” said Coach Macaraya. “Our plan today was to deny (Hamadou) Laminou from receiving the ball and we also pressured their point guards.”
With Calisaan on the bench, it was the chance for transferee guard Lorenzo Navarro to show his wares. The former national junior team member finished with 10 points as he combined well with Mark Sangalang who added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Jerome Garcia paced the still winless Generals with 14 markers. Laminou was next with 10 points but could only pluck four rebounds as SSC dominated the statistic, 51-33.
