A UNIQUE trilogy of sporting events will debut on the morning of August 4, 2013 with the holding of a fun run entitled “300 Mandirigma: Hakbang Sa Pagbabago” at the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. Distance categories are 10 and five kilometers.
Organized by the Golden Grip Universal Foundation, the event aims to raise funds for their poverty alleviation projects that include medical and health assistance and basic and livelihood education. The name of the event is derived from a recent movie about a small band of ancient warriors who despite the odds persisted to accomplish victory.
Interested runners my head to Reebok outlets in SM Megamall, Trinoma and Festival Mall, Toby’s branches in SM Fairview, SM Mall of Asia and Glorietta IV and 100 Miles Café at the Bonifacio Global City. Weekends only registration will also be conducted at Toby’s-SM Megamall and RUNNR in Bonifacio High Street.
Registration fee is only PHP 800.00 for 10 kilometers and PHP 600.00 for five kilometers, inclusive of a race bib, event singlet and discount coupons for Reebok and Diadora merchandise. In addition, the first 300 10-kilometer finishers will receive a limited edition premium shirt.
Event singlets for everybody but only 300 will receive the finishers’ shirt on the right.
Students with a valid ID are entitled to a 50-percent discount off the race fee. Meanwhile, non-students, running teams and employees will get a free race kit for every six fully paid registrations.
This early, Hakbang has gotten the endorsement of celebrities, led by Filipino ultra marathon legend Cesar Guarin and the husband and wife team of Gerard Pizzaras and Jan Marini Alano. Other celebrities who have endorsed the fun run are actors John Regala and Dennis Roldan, Paranaque City Councilor Ryan Yllana and Sarah Balabagan.
After Hakbang, the trilogy continues with “Langoy Sa Pagbabago”, an aquathlon on September 28, and “Padyak Sa Pagbabago”, a duathlon on November 30. The details of these events will be announced soon.
