A COMMON excuse for being unable to start a fitness regimen is the lack of time. In response to that, noted fitness coach Jim Saret and his team has partnered again with MediCard to launch the second leg of the MediCard-Meta Fit Fitness Boot Camp starting today (June 10) at the MediCard Lifestyle Center located at the corner of Buendia Avenue and Paseo de Roxas in Makati City.
The camp is a series of high intensity workouts that aim to increase the body’s natural metabolism through short four-minute workouts. Because of the intensity, the body can now burn the same amount of calories from spending an hour on a treadmill or stationary bike in lesser time.
A sample four minute workout called “The Bodyweight Blaster” begins with 10 jumping jacks followed by 10 squats, 10 pushups and finally 10 lunges on each leg before doing another set of all four exercises again. The goal is to complete as many sets as possible within the four-minute time limit.
One advantage of the program is that minimal equipment investment is needed. There is no need to purchase expensive machines or gadgets – a simple yoga mat, set of therabands and gloves will suffice.
Participants can be assured of safety as medical personnel will be on hand. Aside from the exercises, tips regarding injury prevention, nutrition and other helpful topics will be given out making it a truly comprehensive program.

Helping out Coach Saret is a team of able coaches with impressive resumes led by Coach Kenneth Benton, an international certified personal trainer from the University of Colorado. He has trained champion basketball teams in Cebu City like the M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos of Liga Pilipinas and the Southwestern University Cobras.
Coach Irene Rafil is a seven-year veteran of the fitness game and is a certified trainer for both TRX and Les Mills Body Pump. She is also a Level One Muay Thai instructor.
Rounding up the roster are Raffy Tan and Hazel Chua, who first gained fame as contestants on a television reality show about weight loss. The two hope to inspire and motivate the participants using their own victories over obesity as prime examples.
The camp will go on until July 5, 2013 with sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30 PM. After that, the plan is for the camp to be brought to other venues around Metro Manila and the provinces.
The first leg of the MediCard-Meta Fit Fitness Boot Camp was successfully held last February hence it was inevitable that a follow up will be organized. “We believe that this will promote a healthy lifestyle, one that is engaging and is never boring because it involves a lot of your participation and commitment,” said MediCard Philippines Marketing Manager Kate Joaquin.
In celebration of its 25th year, MediCard staged the MediRun 2012 on May 19, 2012 at the Bonifacio Global City. It was a well attended event as a lot of runners were enticed by the free USB stick and medical checkup that came with the kit.
