TxTFire Run On May 27

Help fight fires, save lives and property on May 27 at the Mall of Asia!

MANILA – A simple mobile phone could save lives and property.  With that in mind, an expected field of 5,000 runners will converge at the SM Mall of Asia grounds at the crack of dawn on May 27, 2012 as TxTFire and Eng Bee Tin presents the “First TxtFire Run: Takbo Laban Sa Sunog.”

Registration is ongoing at selected Chris Sports branches in Metro Manila, Fitness and Athletics at Bonifacio High Street, A Runner’s Circle in Malate and all Eng Bee Tin Hopia stores in Metro Manila.  Fees are PHP 500.00 for 10K, PHP 400.00 for 5K and PHP 300.00 for 3K.

The race kit consists of an exclusive singlet, timing chip and race bib with map.  A certificate and loot bag will be given upon completion of the race.  Medals and gift packs await the top finishers all distance and gender categories.  Special awards will also be handed out to groups that are able to gather 25 or more participants.

TxTFire Philippines Chairman and Founder Gerry Chua enumerated several reasons why the public should attend their run.  “For one, we are the cheapest,” he said.  “Secondly, we have a good venue in the Mall of Asia which is very accessible and friendly to runners because of its flat surface.”

However, Chua continued by saying that all registration fees will go their project which is to donate and install ICE (In Case of Emergency) Boxes, a device that informs firemen of a fire with one press of a button, in strategic locations like hospitals, schools and commercial areas.  “Most of our run’s costs have been answered by donations like the singlets and hydration and hundreds of volunteers”

In line with its centennial this year, Eng Bee Tin is partnering with TxTFire for this fun run.  Aside from being the hopia firm’s third generation owner, Chua is also a volunteer fireman.

“This is just my way of giving back to the community,” added Chua.  Through the years, the company has supported volunteer firemen by donating fire engines and equipment.  “I always link my being a volunteer fireman to the success of our family business.”

Pablo Cay of Runners’ Link is the race director while Ryan Tan is the event chairman.  The course has been measured and certified by the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA).

The TxTFire Run is greatly supported by the SM Mall of Asia, San Francisco Mirror, Viking’s, Jumbo Plastic, Freego Jeans, Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, Universal Caltex, Roosevelt Aluminum, Puma, A Runner’s Circle and media partners Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star and Pilipino Star Ngayon.

BE A TXTFIRE VOLUNTEER

TxTFire is a non-profit foundation and is the very first in the world to use text messaging as a dispatch for firemen.  They have an estimated 300,000 volunteers nationwide as of last count.

Should there be a fire in your area, just grab your mobile phone and type REPORT <space> <location> and send to the following numbers:  (0916) 488-8888 for Globe, (0918) 688-8888 for Smart and (0922) 688-8888 for Sun.  For example: REPORT Anahaw Road, Quezon City.

Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register by typing REG followed by their full name and address and send to the abovementioned numbers.  Registered volunteers will receive daily updates like news, quotes and even jokes for free.  For example: REG Johnny Huang Grace Park, Caloocan City.

All messages sent to TxTFire are absolutely free!  However, pranksters will be dealt with accordingly.  Your next message to TxTFire may just save a friend or his property.
