KARL KEVIN Quiambao of Nazareth School of National University was adjudged as the top player from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) in the newest National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) 24 Rankings. The 6’3” teenager was a big factor in the Bullpups successful title defense last March 9 against Far Eastern University.
A silent but effective operator on the floor, the 18-year old used his height and bulk in producing averages of 12.6 points and 9.7 rebounds in their 16-game season sweep. He was the only Bullpup included in the Mythical Five.
Coming in at second is season Most Valuable Player John Jake Figueroa of Adamson University. At third is another Bullpup in Carl Vincent Tamayo who saved the best for last and poured in 26 points and 22 rebounds in the title clincher en route to getting the nod as Finals MVP.
Others cracking the Top Ten are Joshua Lazaro (4th), Francis Lopez (7th) and Rence Sean Keith Padrigao (10th) of Ateneo de Manila University, Anfernee Estacio (5th) and Cholo Anonuevo (8th) of FEU, John Bismarck Lina (6th) of University of Santo Tomas and Terrence Fortea (9th) ng NSNU. All the mentioned players will see action in the 2020 Chooks To Go NBTC All-Star Game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on the week of April 20 to 26.
The players will be spread out among two teams and will be joined by their counterparts from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) led by their number one Rhayyan Amsali of San Beda University-Rizal. There will also be representatives from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation (CeSAFI), Filipino-Chinese leagues and overseas Filipino communities in the United States, Canada and the Middle East.
Three more Bullpups made it to the UAAP NBTC 24 in Gerry Austin Abadiano (12th), Reyland Torres (14th) and Ernest Felicilda (19th). Rounding out the list are Patrick Sleat and Jorick Bautista of FEU, John Matthew Erolon and Joshua Barcelona of Adamson, Ian Espinosa of Ateneo, Jacob Refuerzo Cortez of UST, Cyrus Austria of University of the East, Jhayzine Kean Baclaan and Jon Ivan Cudiamat of De La Salle-Zobel and Sean Aldous Torculas and Jordi Gomez de Liano of University of the Philippines Integrated School.
A year ago, 7’1” phenom Kai Zachary Sotto of Ateneo was the runaway choice at the top of the overall NBTC 24 Rankings. With the young giant opting to take his talents overseas, the race this season was blown wide open.
