UCSAA: June 6 Recap

UCSAA Season 9     CALOOCAN CITY – The race in the Ninth Universities, Colleges and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA) Preseason Tournament just got a bit more interesting on the penultimate day of the preliminary phase as home team WCC-Aerotech College and Saint Dominic Savio College booked impressive wins Thursday at the WCC Gym in Grace Park Thursday.  For now, the semifinal pairings are yet to be decided entering the final day this Saturday at the AMA University Gym in Quezon City.

The host Skyhawks nipped pacesetter First City Providential College, 72-70, for their second win in five games.  Not to be outdone, Saint Dominic Savio shocked AMA, 75-69, as both winners managed to avenge their losses in the first round.

Taking advantage of the familiar surroundings, David Velvez and Erick Aviado scored the crucial baskets for the Skyhawks.  Velvez went on to eventually top WCC with 23 points.

Jim Dexter Tenedero stepped up for the injury-riddled Unicorns as he led their rally from a 25-47 halftime deficit.  Tenedero knocked in 16 of his 24 points in the second half for their second win.

For the last day of the preliminaries, First City (3-2) and AMA (3-2) will dispute the top seeding in the 1:00 PM main game.  Saint Dominic Savio (2-3) and WCC (2-3) meet in the opener at 11:00 AM with the winner meeting the loser of the second game in the knockout semifinals on June 15.
