UCSAA Holds Preseason for 9th Year

UCSAA Season 9     AS PART of the preparations for their ninth season later this year, the Universities, Colleges and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA) will conduct a preseason tournament starting May 25 (Saturday) at the AMA University Gym in Quezon City beginning at 11:00 AM.  Four schools have confirmed their participation in returnees Saint Dominic Savio College and First City Providential College and newcomers World Citi Colleges and AMA.

To add an element of suspense, the teams will draw lots just before the opening tip to determine their initial opponents.  Tournament format calls for a double round of six games per team followed by the knockout crossover semifinals on June 15 and the championship game immediately after on June 16.

Most of the games, semifinals and finals will be at the AMA-QC Gym.  There will be a doubleheader at the FCPC Gym in the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on May 29 and at the WCC Gym in Grace Park, Caloocan on June 5.

The AMA Titans are seen as the early favorites owing to their line-up spiked with PBA D-League veterans.  Not to be outdone are the SDSC Unicorns who are perennial contenders in the eight years of the UCSAA.

The FCPC Royal Eagles are a team on the rise as the members of their two-time champion Juniors squad are now moving up to the Seniors Division.  Meanwhile, WCC will now carry the new moniker Skyhawks (formerly Vikings) as they mark their return to mainstream basketball leagues after years of dormancy.

The Pasig Catholic College Crusaders were crowned as last season’s Seniors Basketball champions after sweeping the Unicorns in the best of three finals, 2-0.  Other teams that participated in the 8th UCSAA were the ICCT Colleges Dragons, College of Saint John Paul II Mighty Lions and Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong Grey Wolves.
