NCRAA26: UL d. PSBA-QC, 92-82

#NCRAA26     PASIG CITY – Surprising University of Luzon maintained its perfect record by mastering Philippine School of Business Administration-Quezon City, 92-82, at the resumption of Group B play from the 26th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) at the Saint Joseph Gymnasium of Pasig Catholic College.  The Golden Tigers are now 3-0 and have now surpassed their win total from last season, their debut in the league.

One of those two wins was against the very same Jaguars, 89-84, last February 6 at Olivarez College.  Fast forward to the current season and the Dagupan City-based varsity displayed the same if not better form to move into a tie at the top with Centro Escolar University.

Scoring leader Reynald Ballesteros and super sub Mark Christian Meneses formed a potent combination as they presided over UL’s second period romp wherein they outscored PSBA-QC, 30-13, en route to the 52-36 halftime advantage.  Coach Byron Jake Vidal fielded his second stringers in the third but a sudden rally from the Jaguars forced him to return his regulars to finish out the contest.

Ballesteros sank five triples for 19 points in only 23 minutes of action and Bryan Rosalin scored 16 after having only 11 in his first two games.  Twin Towers Meneses and Robert Caasi continued their domination with a combined 27 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks.

Nichole Maulion paced the Jaguars with 24 points on six triples.  Michael Angelo Viloria and Oneal Amansec provided support with 19 points each but it was not enough to avoid sinking further to the bottom of Group B with four straight defeats.

How They Scored:

LUZON (92) – Ballesteros 19, Rosalin 16, Meneses 14, Caasi 13, Torio 9, Main 7, Basan 4, Gagua 3, Angcap 3, Quinto 2, Balolong 2, Dudan Cruz 0.

PSBA-QC (82) – Maulion 24, Viloria 19, Amansec 19, Agustin 14, Verdadero 4, Jaudines 2, Teodoro 0, Malamug 0, Villaver 0.

Period Scores: 22-23, 52-36, 71-61, 92-82.
