FilOil: Adamson d. Letran, 83-80

SAN JUAN City – Adamson University may be the last team to make their debut at the 12th FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup but it was worth the wait as the Falcons downed Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 83-80, in continuing action Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Sean Manganti starred in the fourth period and Pappi Sarr hit the big shot to hand the Knights their second loss in four games.

Vince Magbuhos gave Adamson the go-ahead basket to begin the fourth and Manganti hit a pair of triples to prevent Letran from inching closer.  Sarr then hit a jumper from top of the key at the 14-second mark for an 82-78 advantage.

Jeo Ambohot gave it one final push as his strong drive to the hoop went in to cut the gap to two points, 80-82 and eight ticks to play.  Manganti was immediately fouled and split his free throws to up their lead to three and the Falcons’ defense held their breath as John Paul Calvo missed a desperation triple at buzzer.

“This is part of our learning process,” said Coach Franz Pumaren.  “A lot of new players came in this month so we are a relatively young team.”

Manganti finished with a total of 20 points and three assists.  Sarr followed with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Bong Quinto paced the Knights with 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Calvo was next with 17 points.
