NCRAA25: PMMS d. AMA, 84-77

PMMS Mariners: 25th Sta. Lucia Land NCRAA Second Runner-Up.

#NCRAA25     PARANAQUE CITY – Philippine Merchant Marine School ended its season on a positive note by taking home Third Place of the 25th Sta. Lucia Land National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) Seniors Basketball at the expense of AMA University, 84-77, Tuesday morning at Olivarez College.  Ironically, both schools also met for the season’s opening game last December 12 with AMA prevailing, 93-61.

However, the situations were reversed for their rematch as this time it was the turn of AMA to report with a shorthanded roster against a full-strength Mariners quintet.  PMMS sought to settle the score early by unloading the first nine points of the second period to erect their biggest lead of the game, 28-13.

While the Mariners went on cruise control, the pesky Titans refused to fold and suddenly cut the difference to only two points on two free throws each from Genmar Bragais and Carlo Garcia, 66-68.  Aaron Morante cooled the rally with a triple followed by a steal and layup for Wendell Attas to give the Mariners ample breathing space at the three-minute mark, 73-66, and hold on to the win.

Bryan Hilario paced the Mariners with 15 points and 15 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.  Attas, Morante and Joshua Carvajal ably supported him with 14 markers each while Kurt Sunga dished off 11 assists to go with seven points.

Carlo Garcia and Joseph Celso topped the Titans with 18 points each.  Owen Graham set a new season record of 24 rebounds on top of his 17 points.

How They Scored:

PMMS (84) – Hilario 15, Carvajal 14, Morante 14, Attas 14, Sunga 7, Gilbero 7, Palomares 6, Bautista 4, Briones 3, Manatad 0.
