NCRAA25: De Ocampo d. Olivarez, 84-71

#NCRAA25     PARANAQUE CITY – De Ocampo Memorial College forced a deciding Game Three for the 25th Sta. Lucia Land National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) Seniors Basketball championship by routing host Olivarez College, 84-71, in front of a stunned home crowd Tuesday afternoon.  The rubber match is set for this Friday at the same venue starting at 10:00 AM.

The strategy by Coach Ronnie “Toto” Dojillo to bring in stalwarts Dahrrel Caranguian and Jhonard Clarito off the bench was a masterstroke as the duo combined with starter Redel Fabro in keying their breakaway by halftime, 45-34.  De Ocampo then found a pleasant surprise in Tyrone de la Cruz who took the spotlight from his more heralded teammates as he led their scoring burst in the fourth en route to their biggest lead of the game, 81-61.

25th Sta. Lucia NCRAA Mythical 5: Sunga, MVP Caranguian, Clarito, Graham and Begaso.

At halftime, Caranguian was honored as the season’s Most Valuable Player and joined Clarito in the Mythical Five along with Vinny Begaso of Olivarez, Kurt Sunga of Philippine Merchant Marine School and Owen Graham of AMA University.  The proverbial “curse” brought about by receiving such an award did not rear itself as Caranguian and Clarito took turns at burning down the Sea Lions.

Caranguian led all scorers with 23 points from nine of 17 shooting well spread throughout the game.  De la Cruz had a breakout performance of 15 points, 10 coming in the pivotal fourth, on top of eight rebounds.

Jayboy Solis was the high man for the Sea Lions with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.  John Albert Rabe and Begaso followed with 13 points each with Begaso hauling 11 rebounds.
