NCRAA25: AMA d. DLSU-D, 97-73

#NCRAA25     PARANAQUE CITY – This time, Group B top seed AMA University Titans made sure from the opening tip and sent in their regular starters to blow away De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, 97-73, in continuing action from the 25th Sta. Lucia Land National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) Friday at Olivarez College.  Coach Mark Herrera employed a compact eight-man rotation and that was enough to send the Titans through to the semifinals.

The upset-conscious Patriots were still in the thick of things midway and trailing by only nine in the fourth period, 71-80, when the Titans unloaded a 17-2 to close out the contest including the final nine points to achieve their biggest lead at the buzzer.  The victory somewhat appeased the bitterness from the Titans’ 80-99 setback at the hands of the Patriots last February 15 at the Muntinlupa Sports Center in a game that saw Coach Herrera field his regular starters only at the start of the second half and DLSU-D well in control for the Titans’ lone loss thus far in the tournament.

The quartet of Daniel Salonga, Genmar Bragais, Carlo Garcia and Owen Graham outscored the entire DLSU-D side as they all churned out eye-popping statistics led by Salonga with 25 points in 24 minutes of play.  Bragais followed with 21 points and 15 rebounds, Garcia with 20 points and nine assists and Graham with 19 points and 20 rebounds.

The Patriots were led by John Cantimbuhan with 19 points, eight assists and for steals.  He was backed up by Vincent Alves with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

AMA will now play the waiting De Ocampo Memorial College in the semifinals this Tuesday at PATT College of Aeronautics.  The Cobras advanced earlier via a 78-70 victory over Saint Francis of Assisi College.

How They Scored:

AMA (97) – Salonga 25, Bragais 21, Garcia 20, Graham 19, Barde 8, Paras 4, Castro 0, Alao 0.
