PCCL: San Lorenzo d. Jose Rizal, 83-58

There Can Only Be One    MANDALUYONG CITY – Colegio de San Lorenzo surprised home team Jose Rizal University, 83-58, to begin the National Capital Region qualifiers of the 2017 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) at the JRU Gym Monday.  Soulemane Chabi Yo proved to be unstoppable as he made mincemeat of the JRU defense and move the Griffins one step closer to an appearance in the Elite Eight next month.

San Lorenzo’s defense limited JRU to only six points in the third period and Chabi Yo took advantage by unloading 14 of his 28 points, including a 360-degree dunk off a steal in the dying seconds of the period. Overall, Chabi Yo had an overall performance by adding 16 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks.

Jan Dominic Formento also starred in the pivotal third as he scattered eight of his 16 points.  The Griffins enjoyed their biggest, 73-40.

Macky Perez paced the Heavy Bombers with 14 points and seven rebounds.  He was followed by Karl Bordon and Mark de la Virgen with nine markers each.

JOSE RIZAL (58) – Perez 14, Bordon 9, de la Virgen 9, Esguerra 6, David 5, de Guzman 5, Yu 4, Ramos 4, Sawat 2, Silvanez 0, Tubiano 0, Padua 0.

Period Scores: 18-13, 35-30, 63-36, 83-58.
