NCAA: San Sebastian d. Saint Benilde, 101-71

NCAA Season 93    SAN JUAN City – Season host San Sebastian College put up an amazing shooting display in crushing College of Saint Benilde, 101-71, at the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) games Friday (August 11) at the FilOil Flying V Centre.  This marks the first time a Senior Division team has broken the 100-point mark and put the Stags back in the hunt for a playoff berth.

Michael Calisaan, Allyn Bulanadi and Alfren Gayosa to turns at leading the San Sebastian attack as the Blazers were only in the fight during the first period which ended in the Stags’ favor, 28-21.  The starters had done enough damage to allow them to coast to the victory outscoring the CSB starters, 59-32.

“He is PBA material,” said Coach Edgar Macaraya of Gayosa.  “At 6’2”, Alfren can do a lot of things on both offense and defense.”

Calisaan led the Stags with 20 points and six rebounds while Gayosa had 15 points and six rebounds.  The Stags improved to 3-3 and move into a three-way tie for third to fifth place with Emilio Aguinaldo College and Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

Rookie Unique Naboa came off the bench to pace the Blazers with 17 points.  Edward Dixon followed with 15 points and seven rebounds.

In the Juniors Division, the Staglets sent La Salle Green Hills reeling to back-to-back defeats, 73-71. Damie Cuntapay led the winners with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
