D-League: CEU d. Batangas, 81-74

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Centro Escolar University booted out Batangas from the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup playoffs via an 81-74 drubbing Thursday (August 3) at the Ynares Sports Arena.  The Scorpions will now engage undefeated top seed Flying V in a best-of-three semifinal series next week.

Batangas enjoyed an early 9-5 lead but a 23-9 flurry in the final four and a half minutes of the first period highlighted by a pair of JK Casino triples gave the lead to CEU and they never looked back, 28-18.  The best that the Batanguenos could do was threaten with 1:33 to play in the fourth period on a triple from Robby Celiz followed by a basket by Cedrick Ablaza, 74-77, but that was it as Casino and Orlan Wamar secured the win with a pair of free throws each.

Casino paced the Scorpions with 18 points on four triples coming off the bench.  Rodrigue Ebondo and Mark Cruz were next with 15 markers each with Ebondo collaring 19 rebound.

Celiz topped Batangas with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Cedric de Joya supported him with 16 points and three assists while Ablaza finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
