D-League: Marinerong Pilipino d. AMA, 125-71

2017 Foundation Cup    PASIG CITY – Marinerong Pilipino completed its rise from the deeps of the standings and advance to the playoffs of the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup by torpedoing AMA Online Education,125-71, in the penultimate day of the elimination round Thursday (July 27) at the Ynares Sports Arena. The Skippers unleashed another display of firepower and close out their slate at 6-4.

Julian Sargent, a one-time AMA Titan, punished his former team with 10 points in the opening period as the Skippers jumped to a 33-26 lead.  Sargent then turned over the scoring cudgels to Mark Isip and Donald Gumaru and the outcome was settled by halftime, 64-39, as AMA put up token resistance in the second half.

Sargent led all scorers with 20 points on top of seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.  Gumaru followed with 18 points, 11 coming in the fourth period.

Daniel Salonga paced the Titans with 14 points.  Jun Alas and Embons Bonleon were next with 13 and 12 points respectively.

The Skippers now await the outcome of the remaining games to determine their final seeding.  Flying V, Cignal HD and Tanduay Rhum are now assured of the top three positions.
