PASIG CITY – Tanduay Rhum continued its search for better playoff positioning as they disposed of closest pursuer Wang’s Basketball, 93-81, at the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday evening (July 18). The Rhum Masters solidified their hold on third place with their sixth win in eight games and in the process creating more separation between them and the 5-4 Wang’s.
Tanduay was all business in dictating the tempo towards erecting a 62-47 advantage in the third quarter. However, Wang’s came storming back behind the gallant plays of Michael Juico to threaten early in the fourth period, 64-66.
The celebration was temporary as Jay-R Taganas quickly issued a baseball pass to the sprinting Renz Pallma for an easy layup and James Martinez and Paul Varilla put in crucial baskets to restore their double-digit lead on a Jom Sollano field goal, 91-81.
Martinez led the Rhum Masters’ assault with 16 points, including seven in the fourth period. Von Tambeling followed with 15 points and six rebounds.
Juico topped Wang’s with 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Robert Herndon followed him with 16 markers.
