D-League: Flying V d. AMA, 114-91

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Make it eight in a row for the streaking Flying V Thunder as Jeron Teng submitted a triple double to pulverize AMA Online Education, 114-91, and clinch the top playoff seeding in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Monday (July 17).  Even if the Thunder drops their remaining two games, they are assured of an outright entry into the semifinals.

Teng had a field day against his former team, the same team that made him the top overall pick in this year’s rookie draft, with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists in 34 minutes of play.  Eric Salamat also sizzled on offense with seven triples for 33 points, 16 of which came in the pivotal third period wherein the Thunder seized control and never looked back.

The Titans had a good start by racing to an 18-2 lead but Flying V patiently fought back to tie the game, 40-40, before AMA recovered to lead at halftime, 45-43.  Teng then opened third period hostilities with a triple to give them the lead for the first time since 2-0 and they never looked back as Salamat, Hans Thiele and Thomas Torres joined him scoring 41 points for an unassailable 84-65 advantage.

Daniel Salonga was one of the few bright spots on AMA’s side with 10 of his 20 points coming in the second period but it did not prevent them from falling to 1-7.  Embons Bonleon followed with 16 points while Andre Paras had 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
