SAN JUAN City – Andrew Estrella hit a cold-blooded triple from top of the key with five seconds to play and lift Mapua University over Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 78-75, in a thriller from the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) games at the FilOil Flying V Centre Tuesday (July 11). It was a fitting reward for the Cardinals who patiently rallied from five points down entering the fourth period, 56-61.
Estrella scored a total of 12 points in the fourth and also emerged as Mapua’s highest pointer with 18 points on top of seven rebounds and seven assists as they evened their win-loss record at 1-1. Hesed Gabo and JR Raflores supported him with 12 points each with Raflores collaring 11 rebounds.
Jerrick Balanza paced the Knights with 15 but was held scoreless in the fourth. Rey Nambatac tried to force overtime but his desperation heave went nowhere to finish with 13 points
