D-League: Flying V d. CEU, 91-79

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Flying V further improved its perfect record to 7-0 by halting Centro Escolar University, 91-79, at the resumption of the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Tuesday (July 11).  The Thunder led all the way thanks in part to the torrid three-point shooting of Jeron Teng and Eric Salamat.

The best the Scorpions could was close in by a point on a triple from Ric Fuentes, 32-33, the Thunder recovered to still lead at halftime, 38-34.  By the second half, Flying V was all business as Teng buried all his four triples with Salamat adding a pair to spark their breakaway.

“We had trouble with CEU’s zone defense so we made the adjustment by moving the ball better and finding the open man,” explained Coach Eric Altamirano.  “We may be 7-0 at the moment but we are not thinking sweep and will still take it one game at a time.”

Teng hit 30 points for the second straight game to further solidify his status as the tournament’s top scorer.  Salamat supported him with 13 points and five assists.

Rodrigue Ebondo topped CEU with 20 points and 21 rebounds but lacked support from his teammates as the usual gunners struggled.  Orlan Wamar followed with 13 points, 10 coming during fourth period with the outcome long settled.
