NCAA93: San Beda-Rizal d. San Sebastian, 86-75 (Jrs)

NCAA Season 93     MANILA – San Beda College-Rizal opened up action in the Juniors Division of the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball games with a runaway against season host San Sebastian College, 86-75, at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Gym Sunday afternoon (July 9).  The Red Cubs, last year’s runner-up, got things going in the fourth period behind Peter Alfaro, Samuel Abuhijle and Addy Velasquez for the win.

Alfaro scored eight of his 17 points in the pivotal period to with three rebounds and three assists.  Velasquez and Abuhijle both had 16 markers each and combined for 15 rebounds.

Damie Cuntapay led the Staglets with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Alex Desoyo added 16 points.  Erratic play cost San Sebastian a lot of chances with a total of 41 turnovers compared to only 29 for the Red Cubs.

SAN BEDA-RIZAL (86) – Alfaro 17, Velasquez 16, Abuhijle 16, Mahinay 10, Tagala 6, Barbero 5, Etrata 3, Lagumen 2, Obenza 2, Garcia 2, Nayve 1, Sese 0, de la Rosa 0.

SAN SEBASTIAN (75) – Cuntapay 25, Desoyo 16, Villapando 7, Pasamante 5, Baclaan 5, Aguilar 4, Rodriguez 3, Timbancaya 3, Sumoda 3, Pelias 2, Calahat 2, Umayao 0, Espiritu 0.

Period Scores: 21-21, 42-36, 62-57, 86-75.
