D-League: Wang’s d. Zark’s Burger, 133-92

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Wang’s Basketball issued a big statement as they dismantled Zark’s Burger, 133-92, at the resumption of the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Monday (July 3).  Wang’s poured all of its strength in the third period to put away the Jawbreakers behind the efforts of the prolific pair of Michael Juico and Robert Herndon.

Leading by only six points at the breaks, a rejuvenated Wang’s came back to the court and proceeded to assert themselves highlighted by a crushing 16-0 run that pegged the count at 94-58.  Herndon and Juico combined for 18 markers as Wang’s outscored Zark’s in the pivotal third, 46-12, en route to a comfortable 102-62 cushion entering the final period.

Juico began his personal scoring spree by making 13 points in the first period and eventually finishing with 30 points on top of 12 rebounds and six assists.  Herndon was close behind with 26 points, six rebounds and five assists as four other teammates scored in double digits.

Robby Celiz notched a personal-best of 37 points but it was not enough to bail out the Jawbreakers who fell to 1-6.  RR de Leon was the next best Zark’s scorer with 18 points and six rebounds.

“Adjustments in defense were our major adjustment when we started the second half,” said Coach Pablo Lucas.  “Right now, if the team continues to play this way I am optimistic we will make the playoffs for the first time in team history.”
