D-League: Flying V d. Racal Motors, 94-86

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Gab Banal stepped up in the fourth period to rescue Flying V over Racal Motors, 94-86, in continuing action from the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday (July 3).  The Thunder further extended their perfect record to five games while sending Racal to its third straight loss.

Racal actually scored the first six points of the fourth period to erect a 70-67 advantage.  That proved to be their last hurrah as Aris Dionisio completed a three-point play followed by the go-ahead triple by Banal to give the lead to the Thunder for good, 73-70.

Banal continued to punish Racal by unloading eight more points to repel Racal’s repeated attempts to rally. Dionisio then provided the exclamation basket at the 1:31 mark and Flying V enjoying an unassailable 89-80 cushion.

Banal ended up with a total of 17 points and six rebounds.  Thomas Torres also had 17 points, scoring four triples in the third period to maintain their distance.

Michael Ayonayon paced Racal with 28 points and nine rebounds.  He was backed up by the trio of Gwayne Capacio, Mac Tallo and Jamil Ortuoste with 10 markers each.

FLYING V (94) – Torres 17, Banal 17, Dionisio 13, Canada 11, Teng 11, Thiele 10, Salamat 8, Tampus 4, Webb 3, Colina 0, Ongteco 0.

RACAL MOTORS (86) – Ayonayon 28, Capacio 10, Tallo 10, Ortuoste 10, Gomez 9, Pontejos 9, Grimaldo 6, Faundo 2, Apreku 2, Mangahas 0, de la Cruz 0, Cortes 0, Lozada 0.

Period Scores: 25-28, 46-44, 67-64, 94-86.
