PASIG CITY – Centro Escolar University is now a two-game winning run after they mastered Zark’s Burger, 78-62, at the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday evening (June 22). The Scorpions successfully followed up their 72-70 triumph over Batangas last June 15.
“I told the team that they cannot match shots and run with Zark’s veterans so we simplified our game in the second half and we sought to limit their scorers,” said Coach Yong Garcia. “We just want to continue improving every game and this starts with our practices.”
CEU did exactly what their coach feared but still clung to a 27-22 lead after the first period. Employing the defensive adjustments discussed at halftime, the Scorpions limited the Jawbreakers to only eight markers in the third period and it was smooth sailing hence.
Rodrigue Ebondo continued his domination with 23 points and 21 rebounds for CEU. He was ably backed up by Christian Uri and JK Casino with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Clark Bautista fired a team-high 16 points for Zark’s. However, the usually prolific Robby Celiz was limited to only 10 points going scoreless in the first half, a big factor for his team’s struggles resulting in their fourth loss in five games.
