D-League: Cignal HD d. Racal Motors, 93-75

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Cignal HD churned out another amazing performance to hand Racal Motors their very defeat of the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, 93-75, in the featured contest Tuesday (June 20) at the Ynares Sports Arena.  The Hawkeyes applied a defensive clinic on Racal’s top guns to turn the projected marquee rematch of the last Aspirants Cup Finals into a blowout.

Starting center Alfred Batino and forward Christopher Sumalinog got the ball rolling with seven points each in the opening period to push the Hawkeyes to a 26-11 lead which they never relinquished.  The margin extended to as much as 23 point early in the third period, 59-36, but Cignal suddenly relaxed and almost paid dearly for it.

With his teammates struggling, Michael Ayonayon presided over Racal’s intense rally that saw them cut the margin to as low as six points in the fourth period.  However, key baskets by Raymar Jose and triples from Jason Perkins saved the day as Cignal slowly rebuilt their lost big lead.

Playing in his final game before concentrating fulltime with San Beda College, forward Davon Potts gave a performance to remember with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists.  Perkins was next with 14 points.

Ayonayon proved to be the lone bright spot for Racal with 26 points and eight rebounds.  Jovit de la Cruz was next with only eight points as the team’s leading scorer Mac Tallo was limited to only three points while their second best scorer Gwayne Capacio went scoreless after leaving the game for good in the second period due to an ankle injury.
