FilOil: June 16 Juniors Roundup

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – The semifinal cast of the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Juniors Division is now complete after Nazareth School of National University formally eliminated defending champion San Beda College-Rizal, 103-97, on the final day of the elimination round Friday (June 16) at the FilOil Flying V Centre.  In the other game, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite upset erstwhile unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University in overtime, 106-97.

Despite losing, the Blue Eaglets held on to the top seeding in Group A with four wins against a solitary loss.  They will face Group B runner-up University of Santo Tomas (4-1) a week from now on June 23.

John Barba led the way for Lyceum with 18 points and nine rebounds.  He was supported by Neil Ruiz with 17 points as they finished with a 3-2 record.

The other semifinal pairing pits Group B winner Malayan High School of Science (4-1) against Nazareth (4-1) also on the 23rd.  The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game on June 25.

The Bullpups leaned on the big efforts of Paul Manalang and Cyril Gonzales who pumped in 21 and 20 markers respectively.  Also hitting big was Michael Malonzo with 15 points and eight rebounds.
