D-League: CEU d. Batangas, 72-70

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Rodrigue Ebondo starred on both offense and defense in the final minute to push Centro Escolar University to its first win in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup.  The Scorpions handed Batangas its first setback, 72-70, at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday (June 15).

Ebondo barrelled his way for an easy two points and give CEU the lead with 18 seconds to go, 71-70.  He then completed his solid play by emphatically blocking former teammate Joseph Sedurifa with the loose ball going to Jessie Saitanan but the burly center lost the ball while being assessed a foul on Jordan Intic who then split his free throws for the final tally.

“We are still adjusting to Coach Yong (Garcia) and we are playing this time with no reinforcements unlike the last conference,” said Ebondo, who is also wrapping up his academic requirements at CEU this year.  “I have known Joseph for four years already and I know his moves.”

Ebondo led all scorers with 26 points to go with 22 rebounds and six blocks.  Christian Uri followed with 10 points.

Cedric Ablaza nearly became the hero for Batangas as he scored his 16th and final point at 1:11 mark to give them a 70-68 advantage before Ebondo went to work starting with a free throw split in the next play, 69-70.  Saitanan hit three triples to finish with 12 markers.
