FilOil: June 14 Juniors Roundup

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – Malayan High School of Science barged into the semifinals of the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Juniors Division following an impressive 74-65 beating of erstwhile undefeated University of Santo Tomas at the FilOil Flying V Centre Wednesday (June 14).  In the other completed game, Lyceum of the Philippines University stayed alive by winning over Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 81-69.

The Red Robins ended the Tiger Cubs’ four-game winning streak to create a triple tie with idle Far Easter University at the top of Group B with similar 4-1 win-loss cards.  Applying the FIBA quotient, Malayan (1.056) emerged the top seed followed by UST (1.000) while booting out FEU (0.950).

Mike Enriquez paced Malayan’s balanced attack with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.  He was ably supported by Will Gozum and Joseph Penaredondo who had similar statistics of nine points and 11 rebounds.

In the first game, the Junior Pirates improved their record to 2-2 to tie defending champion San Beda College-Rizal for Third Place in Group B.  Either LPU or SBC can still snatch the second semifinal spot via the quotient system if they beat Ateneo de Manila University (4-0) and Nazareth School of National University (3-1) respectively in their final assignments on Friday (June 16).

Sean Sandoval topped the Junior Pirates with 15 points and six assists.  Mar de Leon and John Barba were next with 12 points each and a combined 16 rebounds.
