D-League: Racal Motors d. Zark’s Burger, 140-90

2017 Foundation Cup     PASIG CITY – Racal Motors showed no mercy in destroying Zark’s Burger, 140-90, in continuing action from the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena Thursday (June 8).  The 140-point output is a new all-time league record for most points scored in a single game.

Guard Kent Salado submitted an all-around display of talent with a triple double of 11 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists as he held together a Racal squad that roared to its second straight victory.  With Salado orchestrating, fellow starter Gwayne Capacio scattered 11 points in the opening period while shooting a perfect four of four from the field and two for two from the free throw line as they built a 38-20 advantage and never looked back.

“We still need to work on our defense,” said Coach Jerry Codinera, one of the best defensive centers during his playing days.  “Even when the lead went up, I kept on reminding them and maintained positive vibes on the bench.”

Mac Tallo came off the bench to pace Racal with 26 points on top of three rebounds and five assists.  Capacio eventually missed a triple attempt but still ended up with 23 points as five other teammates scored in double figures.

Robby Celiz led the Jawbreakers’ losing cause with 28 points, four rebounds and five assists.  Clark Bautista followed with 17 points as Zark’s succumbed to its third straight loss.

The old record was held by Tanduay Rhum in their 133-78 romp over the Mindanao Aguilas held July 19, 2016 in last season’s Foundation Cup.  The Aguilas were coached back then by current Zark’s coach Jade Marvin Padrigao who is still winless in 15 D-League games with both franchises.
