FilOil: San Beda d. UST, 86-59

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – San Beda College continued its undefeated run at the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup with University of Santo Tomas its latest victim, 86-59, in continuing action Sunday (June 4) at the FilOil Flying V Centre. The now 5-0 Red Lions had the luxury of allowing all their players the chance to shine and the team responded with a very balanced attack that left the opposition in shambles.

The starting five of Robert Bolick, Ranbill Tongco, Javee Mocon, Benedict Adamos and Calvin Oftana laid the groundwork for running away with the first period, 24-10.  It was mopping up operations as early as the third period as Coach Boyet Fernandez began to give his role players extended minutes with the lead stretching to as high as 28 markers late in the fourth period, 83-55.

All players fielded by San Beda scored led by Mocon with nine points, four rebounds and three steals followed by Arnaud Noah with eight points and seven rebounds.  A key statistic was assists wherein San Beda outclassed the UST, 24-6.

“This game was a character test for the team after we played bad last time against Perpetual Help,” said Coach Fernandez. “Today, I wanted to give everyone a chance to show his talent and make everyone happy.”

Jeepy Faundo paced the Growling Tigers with 14 points and seven rebounds.  Jordan Sta. Ana was next with 11 points.

San Beda will now have exactly one week to prepare for the next game, a date with bitter NCAA rival Letran on June 11.  After that, the Red Lions will tackle Jose Rizal University on June 14 and Ateneo de Manila University on June 16 to round out their elimination round schedule.
