FilOil: June 4 Juniors Roundup

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – Ateneo de Manila University and Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite tightened the playoff picture in Group A of the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Juniors Division after contrasting wins Sunday morning (June 4) at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Blue Eaglets remained undefeated in three games but needed overtime to do so against gritty Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 97-95.  SJ Belangel hit two triples and Joaquin Manuel banged in the last two crucial field goals in the extra period to carve out the tough win and keep the Squires winless in three games.

Belangel was all over the court with 34 points and nine rebounds.  Jason Credo added 26 points and 10 rebounds while Sean Ildefonso followed with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second game, the Junior Pirates toyed with La Salle Green Hills, 86-72.  Vincent Cunanan set the tone early by pouring in 12 points in the first half as LPU pulled away by the break, 46-27.

Neil Ruiz topped the winners with 20 points and seven rebounds.  Cunanan added four more points in the second half to finish with 16 as teammates John Barba and Sean Sandoval chipped in 10 markers each.

The Junior Pirates finally broke into the win column after two defeats to keep their playoff dreams alive.  They face the daunting task of sweeping their last two games against the Blue Eaglets and Squires to have a chance at one of two semifinal slots from their group.
