FilOil: San Beda d. Perpetual Help, 64-61 OT

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – San Beda College marched to its fourth straight victory by downing University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta in overtime, 64-61, at the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup at the FilOil Flying V Centre Friday night (June 2). While the Red Lions remained the only undefeated side in the 18-school tournament, Coach Boyet Fernandez was not pleased with their performance.

Robert Bolick sent the game into an extra five minutes thanks to his breakaway stab with 0.8 of a second left in regulation, 55-55.  In the overtime, he then flirted with disaster as he missed three straight free throws until finally drilling one at the 12-second mark for the final tally as Prince Eze and AJ Coronel missed a pair of desperation triples.

“I told them that if we lose today to Perpetual, our three previous wins will mean nothing,” said Coach Fernandez. “I hope this game serves as a wakeup call for the team to play their best all the time and it will test their character.”

Benedict Adamos hit a dagger triple from top of the key with 1:36 remaining in the overtime to give San Beda a comfortable 63-59 lead.  Daryl Singontiko responded with a jumper but that proved to be their last hurrah.

San Beda had to rally from four points down with 18 seconds left after Prince Eze placed the Altas ahead on back-to-back baskets, 55-51.  Bolick scored on a quick drive and Flash Sadiwa was immediately fouled but the Altas veteran missed both free throws with the Red Lions collaring the defensive rebound and setting the stage for Bolick’s heroics.

Bolick topped the Red Lions in the low-scoring contest with 12 points on top of eight rebounds.  Arnaud Noah and Kenmark Carino supported him with 10 points each.

Singontiko played his best game of the tournament with 14 of his 19 points coming in the first half that saw the Altas pull ahead, 30-28.  Eze and Sadiwa followed with 12 points apiece as they dropped to 2-5 with Ateneo de Manila University as their final opponent on June 14.
