QUEZON CITY – Batangas gave expansion club Marinerong Pilipino a rude welcome into the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, 92-82, at the resumption of play Tuesday (May 30) at the Jesus Christ Saves Global Outreach Gym. Joseph Sedurifa fired from all angles to key the breakthrough win.
Sedurifa started Batangas’ roll by sinking a triple to beat the first period buzzer and hand them the lead for good, 25-24. Batangas then scored the first six points of the second canto and that was basically it as they coasted along with Sedurifa accounting for 14 more points in the second and third to finish with a team-high 17 points to go with four assists.
“We want to be known as a defensive team,” said Coach Eric Gonzales. “I always tell the players not to think about their opponents but of themselves and how they will play the game.”
Also hitting big shots was Cedric de Joya who pumped in seven of his 14 points in the fourth period. Earvin Mendoza came off the bench to add 11 via three triples with the last one restoring Batangas’ 15-point edge, 81-66.
Paolo Javelona carried the fight for Marinero with 18 points. Julian Sargent added 15 points before fouling out.
