FilOil: San Beda d. Lyceum,96-79

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – The wait for San Beda College’s debut was truly worth it as the Red Lions demolished Lyceum of the Philippines University, 96-79, at the resumption of the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Wednesday (May 24) at the FilOil Flying V Centre.  The Red Lions managed to settle down after a poor start and turn the game wide open in the second half.

Lyceum jumped to an 8-0 lead and it was their best effort as it was all-San Beda since then.  “The players were so excited to play their first game so I told them to relax,” said Coach Boyet Fernandez.

Coach Fernandez was unhappy that SBC gave up 50 points in the first half.  Come the second half, it was a different story as the defense limited Lyceum to only 29 points.

Robert Bolick combined well with Arnaud Noah in spearheading the Red Lions’ attack.  Suddenly, San Beda found themselves on top by 20 markers, 90-70.

Bolick led the way with 16 points and nine assists.  AC Soberano sizzled early with 11 of his 13 points in the first half to start SBC’s initial breakaway.

CJ Perez topped the now 4-2 Pirates with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Jayvee Marcelino followed with 14 points while Jeffrey Santos added 12.

In Juniors Division play earlier in the day, the Red Cubs crushed the debuting Junior Pirates, 88-76.  SBC outscored LPU in the pivotal third period, 37-18, to turn the tight contest into a blowout.

Joshua Tagala and Prince Alfaro top scored for the Red Cubs with 14 points each.  Evan Nelle had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
