FilOil: Perpetual Help d. UE, 72-68

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta leaned on the big baskets of Jack Hao and Rommel Mangalino late in the game to hold off University of the East, 72-68, in continuing action from the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Wednesday (May 24) at the FilOil Flying V Centre. The Altas thus moved back into the playoff hunt with their second win in four games in Group A.

Hao hit a triple followed by a Mangalino basket to give UPHSD a 69-61 lead nearing the last two minutes.  The Warriors came storming back as Mangalino gave up an unsportsmanlike foul on Nick Abanto who made his two free throws to threaten at the 1:11 mark, 68-72.

UE could not capitalize in the ensuing possession as they fired away from three-point distance.  The Altas gave the Warriors one more chance my committing an inbound violation but UE continued to miss, forcing them to foul Mangalino who hit a free throw for the final tally.

Hao paced the Altas with 14 points while Gab Dagangon also had 14 points on top of 14 rebound.  Mangalino added 12 points.

Alvin Pasaol topped UE with 19 points and eight rebounds.  Abanto and Mark Maloles followed with seven markers each as the Warriors fell to 2-3.
