FilOil: San Sebastian d. Mapua, 76-63

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – San Sebastian College continued its hot streak at the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup by taming Mapua University, 76-63, in continuing action Monday (May 22) at the FilOil Flying V Centre. This marks their third win in a row while keeping the Cardinals winless in five starts.

Senior forward Jerrick Fabian presided over San Sebastian’s strong second half surge as they broke away from a single-point advantage at halftime, 29-28.  Fabian unloaded seven of his 15 points in the fourth period, capped by a three-point play off the fifth and final foul of Mapua stalwart Andrew Estrella that made it a 74-62 tally with 1:38 to play.

Michael Calisaan laid the groundwork for the win with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Also contributing were Aljon Capobres and Lorenzo Navarro with nine markers apiece.

Laurence Victoria topped the Cardinals with 18 points and five rebounds.  Before fouling out, Estrella managed to chip in 16 points in only 19 minutes of action.

“I credit the team’s defense, intensity and aggressiveness for the win,” said Coach Edgar Macaraya.  “As long as they play defense, it will be the signature of this team.”

For his part, Fabian vowed to give it his all in his final season of college basketball.  He plans to try-out for a team in the PBA D-League after the NCAA in the first step to making it to the PBA.
