FilOil: May 22 Juniors Roundup

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – Defending champion San Beda College-Rizal returned to the winning track while Malayan High School of Science continued their ascent up the standings of the Juniors Division of the 11th FilOil Flying V Premier Cup with convincing wins Monday (May 22) at the FilOil Flying V Centre.  The Red Cubs routed La Salle Green Hills, 100-82, while the Red Robins blasted Jose Rizal University, 96-71.

San Beda held a shaky 64-60 lead after three periods but outscored the Greenies in the final canto, 36-22, in a fine display of scoring sock.  The Red Cubs now evened their record at 1-1 after dropping their opening assignment against Ateneo de Manila University.

Ain Obenza presided over the Red Cubs’ attack with 23 points and seven rebounds.  Evan Nelle and Samuel Abuhijleh chipped in 16 markers apiece.

The Red Robins are on a roll with their third win in a row in Group B action since losing their first game against Far Eastern University.  They now trail undefeated University of Santo Tomas (3-0) by a half-game in the standings.

Will Gozum powered the Red Robins with 19 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and four blocks.  Warren Bonifacio supported him with 13 points and seven rebounds.
