FilOil: May 3 Juniors Recap

2017 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup     SAN JUAN City – Action in the Juniors Division of the 11th FilOil Flying V Cup got underway Wednesday (May 3) with UAAP champion Far Eastern University clipping NCAA champion Malayan High School of Science, 60-58, in the featured matchup at the FilOil Flying V Centre.  In the opening game, University of Santo Tomas edged Jose Rizal University, 79-71.

The Baby Tamaraws built enough cushion behind the late baskets from Daniel Celzo, Ramish Alforque and the dagger triple from Xyrus Torres.  The Red Robins came roaring back but Will Gozum’s final field goal attempt at buzzer missed.

Torres led the Baby Tams with 10 of his 15 points in the second half.  RJ Abarrientos was next with nine markers.

Joaquin Garcia topped the Red Robins with 14 points and two steals.  Brian Lacap followed with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Tiger Cubs banked on the fine fourth period performances of Val Fornilos and Timothy de la Cruz to carve out the victory.  The Light Bombers were a last-minute entry after Arellano University backed out before the start of the tournament.
