ROS Sumilang Invitational: CEU d. Saint Clare, 77-64

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Centro Escolar University demolished Saint Clare College of Caloocan, 77-64, to notch the first championship berth in the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court Wednesday (April 26).  The Scorpions banked on brilliant team three-point shooting to close another chapter of their storied rivalry with the Saints.

CEU controlled majority of the first half to lead, 30-24.  Saint Clare came fighting back with a 9-3 run to begin the second half to seize back control, 33-32, behind the attacks of Aris Dionisio and Reynaldo de Mesa.

That was the last to be heard from the Saints as the Scorpions countered with a barrage of triples from Christian Uri and Orlan Wamar to retain control for good after the third canto, 53-40.  De Mesa and Rojay Santos tried their best to salvage the game with a combined 21-point output for Saint Clare but JK Casino fired three triples in the final period to keep CEU out of the Saints’ reach.

Wamar led the Scorpions with 20 points, 11 coming in the first period, on five of eight three-point shooting.  Casino followed with 12 of his 14 points in the final period as CEU shot a combined 12 of 33 from beyond the arc compared to Saint Clare’s five of 22 clip.

De Mesa paced the Saints with another double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds followed by Santos with 14 points.  Aris Dionisio was well-defended but still put up 10 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks.
