ROS Sumilang Invitational: PCU d. MLQU, 70-56

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Philippine Christian University became the first team to enter the semifinal round of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament after eliminating Manuel L. Quezon University, 70-56, at the Sumilang Covered Court Tuesday (April 25).

Von Tambeling played his best game so far in the tournament as he starred in a crippling 11-3 run to close out the first half with PCU on top, 35-31.  It was all smooth sailing from there as Tambeling combined well with Michael Ayonayon in holding off the Stallions’ repeated rallies.

The best that MLQU could do was close in by 12 points on a Nikko Lao triple, 47-59, but Tambeling clustered five straight points and Ayonayon popped in a pair of shots that gave PCU an unassailable 70-51 lead.  Gianne Rivera settled the final count with the game’s last five markers.

Ayonayon was the high man for PCU with 24 points and nine rebounds.  Tambeling was next with 23 points and seven rebounds as the Dolphins now await the winner of the game between Philippine Merchant Marine School and De Ocampo Memorial College.
