ROS Sumilang Invitational: CEU d. AMA, 97-51

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Centro Escolar University stamped its class against a flat AMA University quintet, 97-51, and marched on to the semifinals of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court Tuesday (April 25).  Coach Yong Garcia had the luxury of giving more time to his role players as the Titans arrived sans the players that saw action in the elimination phase.

The Scorpions immediately went to work and settled the outcome by the first period, 22-14.  Forward Rich Guinitaran spearheaded the attack with 11 markers plus support from Gilles Aloume and Joseph Manlangit.

AMA looked listless and simply went through the motions of finishing the game.  CEU though continued to pour it on with Guinitaran staging another one-man scoring barrage in the third period and the reserved went through mopping up operations and yet stretched their lead to its largest, 91-40.

Guinitaran, a recruit from Pagadian City, led all scorers with 23 points on top of four rebounds and three steals.  Christian Uri came off the bench to chip in 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Juan Carlo Garcia, the only remaining Titan that played significant minutes in the elimination round, paced the losing side with 14 points and six assists.  JR Barde followed with 12 points as AMA was represented mostly by members of their Junior team.

CEU will next play the winner of the fourth and last quarterfinal match between Saint Clare College of Caloocan and Our Lady of Fatima University.  The first semifinal pairing is already set between Philippine Christian University and Philippine Merchant Marine School.
