PASIG CITY – Centro Escolar University coasted to its second straight win in as many games by downing an undermanned De Ocampo Memorial College, 89-66, on the third day of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court Friday (April 21). A good first period was enough for the Scorpions as forward O’Neil Arim came off the bench to scatter 10 points and push CEU ahead for good, 21-12.
The Cobras sorely missed the services of starters Dahrrel Caranguian and Redel Fabro who were still in their respective home provinces. Compounding their woes was the extended stay on the bench of starting point guard Peter Marc Manalang who bloodied his mouth as he fell on floor in the second period.
All 16 players fielded by Coach Yong Garcia scored, led by Christian Uri with 14 points. Arim added another two points in the second period for a total of 12 points while Rich Guinitaran made all his 11 points in the second half.
Jhonard Clarito and Igi Boy Sabasaje tried their best to make up for their absent teammates with Clarito chipping in 13 and Sabasaje 11 markers. Surprise starter Junar Wenceslao also finished with 11 points as the Cobreas evened their win-loss record at 1-1.
