PASIG CITY – Saint Clare College of Caloocan assumed the early solo leadership of Group A of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament after trouncing AMA University, 90-77, in the featured contest Thursday night (April 20). The Saints rose to 2-0 while the Titans absorbed their second straight setback in as many games.
AMA actually had a good start by jumping to a 10-7 lead. However, this was quickly neutralized by seven unanswered Saint Clare points, 14-10, and it was an all-Saints show from thereon.
The floodgates burst open in the second half with substitute guards MacArthur Enriquez and CJ Catura combining forces with starting center Johnson Martinez to give Saint Clare its biggest lead at the end of three periods, 72-45. A slight rally anchored on Daniel Salonga, Genmar Bragais and Owen Graham in the fourth prompted Coach Jino Manansala to return his starters but the lead was simply to huge to overcome.
Catura paced the Saints with 12 points. Enriquez followed with 10 points all made in the third period while Martinez also added 10 points.
Bragais was the high scorer for the Titans with 17 points. Also hitting double figures were Salonga with 15 and Jayson Jordan with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
