ROS Sumilang Invitational: PCU d. Saint Clare, 79-71

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Philippine Christian University assumed the solo leadership of Group A of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament by downing erstwhile fellow undefeated squad Saint Clare College of Caloocan, 79-71, at the resumption of games at the Sumilang Covered Court Friday (April 21). The Dolphins maintained their perfect record in two games while the Saints fell to 2-1.

PCU was coasting along to the easy win until Raymart Lumabas found his shooting range in the second half as he lifted the Saints back into contention by tying the count with a triple, 69-69, at the 3:36 mark.  Michael Ayonayon the bailed PCU out of trouble by scoring the first five points in a critical 10-2 windup coupled with solid free throw shooting from Dexter Mescallado, Nikko Camaya and Von Tambeling to preserve the win.

Ayonayon atoned for his scoreless first period as he paced the Dolphins with 24 points off the bench.  Yves Sazon actually set the tone for PCU’s good start with 12 points in the first period to end up with 23 points despite going scoreless in the fourth period.

Lumabas led the Saints with 23 points, making nine each in the third and fourth periods.  Johnson Martinez was next with eight points as the Saints played without Aris Dionisio.

Period Scores: 20-19, 37-31, 58-52, 79-71.
