ROS Sumilang Invitational: MLQU d. Pasay, 70-61

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Manuel L. Quezon University finally barged into the win-column of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament via a hard-earned 70-61 win over City University of Pasay in continuing action Friday (April 21) at the Sumilang Covered Court.  The Stallions thus ended their two-game losing skid while keeping the Eagles winless at 0-3.

The Stallions allowed the Eagles to grab the first period, 18-11, behind the hot shooting of James Solero who outscored the entire MLQU side by himself with 12 markers.  After the period break, a rejuvenated MLQU re-entered the floor and Nikko Lao stamped their class by dropping three triples to give control to MLQU for good by halftime, 37-25.

MLQU also shone on defense, limiting CUP to only seven points in the second period.  Not content, they returned for more and kept the Eagles to only nine in the final canto.

Nikko Lao topped the Stallions with 18 points.  Allen King de la Cruz followed with 10.

After scoring 12 in the opening frame, Solero added a dozen more to up his total to 24 points.  Jayvee de la Cruz was the only other teammate in twin digits as the rest of the team struggled for form.

Period Scores: 11-18, 37-25, 55-52, 70-61.
