ROS Sumilang Invitational: Fatima d. MLQU, 70-58

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Our Lady of Fatima turned up its game in the second half to tame Manuel L. Quezon University, 70-58, on opening day of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court.  The tournament serves as the preseason games of the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU).

After a lacklustre first half that saw OLFU hang on to a shaky 29-26 advantage, Jerome Juanico proceeded to score all of his 11 points and Andrei Albano added six to blow the game wide open for the Phoenix entering the final canto, 54-38.  The Phoenix further stretched their lead, 68-44, until a late Stallions rally anchored on Nikko Lao trimmed the final margin.

Albano finished with a total 11 points matching Juanico’s output.  Also contributing was Kim Alcantara with nine points and four rebounds before fouling out.

Lao led all scorers with 21 points and 15 rebounds but lacked support from his teammates. Jayson Grimaldo was the only other Stallion in double figures with 12 points on top of seven rebounds.

MANUEL L. QUEZON (58) – Lao 21, Grimaldo 12, Asturiano 7, Detubio 5, de la Cruz 4, Macalangcom 3, Penascosas 2, Rivera 2, Aurelio 2, Decano 0, Pastor 0.

Period Scores: 15-13, 29-26, 54-38, 70-58.
