ROS Sumilang Invitational: PMMS d. AMA, 80-66

NAASCU on Facebook     PASIG CITY – Philippine Merchant Marine School routed AMA University, 80-66, to close out the first day of hostilities in the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court Wednesday evening (April 19).  The tournament has attracted 10 top collegiate teams and will culminate with the championship game on April 27.

Domark Matillano set the tone for the rout early as he drilled in five triples in the first half to push the Mariners to a 42-33 advantage.  From there, the Las Pinas City-based side executed good lead management as they successfully repelled the Titans’ attempts to close in behind twin towers Scottie Mboe and Amonique Kue plus spot contributions from almost everyone fielded by Coach Aldrin Morante.

Matillano eased up in the second half but connected on a late triple to lead PMMS with 20 points and five rebounds.  Kue and Mboe submitted 11 markers each plus a combined 17 rebounds.

Daniel Salonga was the high man for AMA with 10 of his 23 points coming in the fourth period plus seven rebounds.  Genmar Bragais followed with 16 points.

Action will resume tomorrow with another heavy four-game bill starting at 1:00 PM.  Centro Escolar University and Philippine Christian University will make their debuts after drawing opening day byes.
