PASIG CITY – De Ocampo Memorial College found a hero in forward JR Pascual as he keyed the Cobras’ escape against City University of Pasay, 79-66, at the start of the Rain Or Shine Sumilang Invitational Tournament at the Sumilang Covered Court Wednesday (April 19).
Usually taking the backseat to the team’s stars, Pascual was a one-man wrecking crew scoring all but two of his team-best 17 points. His re-entry into the game sparked a 14-2 DOMC run capped by a three-point play that gave the Cobras an unassailable 67-59 lead with still 3:29 to play.
It was a sorry loss for the Eagles who controlled majority of the contest and led after three periods, 50-46. CUP managed to maintain their lead with James Solero scoring to peg the count at 57-53 prior to Pascual’s explosion.
Pascual finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Jhonard Clarito came off the bench to add 15 points and seven rebounds as DOMC played without team leader Dahrrel Caranguian who was still in his home province of Cagayan.
Solero paced the Eagles with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Francis Macasil backed him up with 14 points and nine rebounds.
