TIP, RTU Score Volleyball Finals Openers

NCRUCLAA on Facebook     MANILA – Technological Institute of the Philippines and Rizal Technological University took important Game One victories at the start of the best-of-three championship series of the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCRUCLAA) Volleyball tournaments for Women and Men at the TIP-Manila Gym Tuesday (April 4).

Taking full advantage of the familiar surroundings and their height advantage, the TIP Lady Engineers remained the only undefeated team in the tournament after they handed the De La Salle University-Dasmarinas Lady Patriots their very first defeat, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-22.  TIP thus stretched their winning streak to eight matches while DLSU-D saw they run end at eight matches.

In the Men’s Division, the RTU Blue Thunder scored a five-set come-from-behind win over the dangerous National College of Business and Arts Wildcats, 30-32, 25-20, 25-17, 19-25 and 15-12.  RTU trailed 6-10 in the deciding fifth set but suddenly reversed the outcome as NCBA suddenly lost steam in the marathon match.

Game Two of both series will be played on Thursday (April 6) at the Philippine Merchant Marine School Gym in Las Pinas City starting at 8:00 AM.  If needed, Game Three will be on Saturday (April 8) at a still to be determined venue and time.

Meanwhile, the RTU Lady Thunder salvaged Third Place in the Women’s Division by mastering the PMMS Lady Mariners in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-7.

The Mariners managed to make up for their female counterparts’ setback by nailing DLSU-D in a five-set battle in their own playoff for Third Place in the Men’s Division, 25-23, 25-17, 31-33, 23-25 and 15-12.
